Our quest is a simple one - to find the perfect Skate Tee.
We always strive to make everything Triple 3 as perfect as possible.
We want to find the perfect Skateboarding T-shirt to use for our range, but what makes one better than another?
What is a Skate T-Shirt
We're talking about a T-shirt worn by Skaters or sold by Skate Brands. We've road-tested dozens over the last year of printed t-shirts from established brands. Some cost the earth, some not so much. Some are thicker and heavier, some hang longer, and others are a bit on the short side. They have different necks, label positioning and hang differently. That's before you even get onto the printing. What makes one perfect?
What Makes a Good Skate T-Shirt
Ignoring how good the design printed on it is, as that's a whole different ball game. The things that make one Tee Shirt stand out from another are really down to two things. The material the product is made from and the cut of the product.
The material is generally cotton. Unless you get some cheap horrible t-shirt with poly blend materials made out of polyester. Horrible stuff, often used in sports clothing to give it some stretch. But there are a million different types of finish as to how the cotton is woven into a fabric.
Not to mention we ideally want something that is organic Cotton, not standard cotton. The impact of non-organic cotton farming is far more significant, the cotton plant is a very thirsty plant and uses a lot of water to grow. The more organic your cotton the better and we don't think Skate Fashion needs to cost the Earth. So organic is the one for us.
Weight is also crucial. You don't want to light material, otherwise, it's cold when you are out skateboarding and sometimes they go a bit see-through, which nobody needs. So after testing a few different weight t-shirts, we wanted something over 150 gsm to give us the feel we wanted.
The Skate T-Shirt Cut
It's amazing how many different ways there are to put a t-shirt together. Go and take a look at a few of your favourite t-shirts and you'll see. Some are made from tubes some have seams along the shoulders with separate sleeves sewn on. It varies massively and affects how the t-shirt sits on you and feels.
We always wanted an old-school streetwear feel to our skate tees. We love the old Skate Streetwear from the nineties. Labels like Insane, maybe even Stussy, you know before it was sold and sold out. We like our t-shirts a little baggy, but not too baggy, let's call it a relaxed fit and we like them to hang with a bit of room to allow some movement when you are riding.
Our Perfect Skate T-Shirt
After months of searching, a few trial prints and some test t-shirts sent out to an army of skateboarders around the UK, we think we've found it.
It's an organic, 180 gsm t-shirt, made from 100% certified organic cotton. It's got a relaxed fit, is long enough not to constantly ride up over your belly and feels soft and comfortable to wear. It washes well at low temperature and holds it's print well. We love it and we've rolled it out across our entire range of Skate Tees.
We hope you love it as much as much and it becomes your goto Skate T-Shirt for the future.
