When did you first set foot on a skateboard?
I think I first set foot on a board at my grandparents house when I was about 8 or 9 years old! I was playing around on the neighbours board on the gravel… couldn’t push or roll
BUT the first real time I stepped on a deck would have probably been around 12 years old…Year 2000.
All of my friends started to roller blade at skateparks but I never had a set as a kid so I was rubbish. I tried my friend’s skateboard and decided it was easier how I was wrong!
What made you want to take it up again?
I’m not even sure what made me start skateboarding again but i think it was mixture of a lot of things…
I started to become really unwell from time to time with Crohns disease and came out of work to look after my son not long after all the Covid stuff had finished…
I used to play football, tennis and cricket competitively and I think I started to missed that! Being so poorly at times I couldn’t really do any of that anymore…I started to watch a few skateboarding videos on YouTube and the next thing I know I’ve ordered a brand new set up I got the skate bug!
Skateboarding is great because I don’t have to play to anyone’s whistle! If I feel unwell or feel like I need to stop I can just get off and stop! No rules!
It’s also a great way to keep me fit as I get older!
(Short answer: midlife crisis)
How did the idea for your sk8 Comeback channel come about?
Again I’m not too sure why as I’ve never really been one for photos or taking videos of myself… but I met a dude at the skatepark in his 50s when I first went to the skatepark again! He was filming himself for his own YouTube channel. He ended up moving away and gave me his tripod! From that day on I filmed almost every session and haven’t looked back! It was very spontaneous at the time… also explains why I haven’t got the first couple of weeks of me learning to film!
That dude saw me slam every morning while pushing mongo round the park I learnt to push regular since.
What are the tricks / skills you've learned recently that you are proudest of?
Honestly everything…. I wasn’t very good as a kid!
Skating a 3ft mini-ramp this summer made me progress loads!
Learning frontside 5050s, disasters, lip slide and tail stall reverts still make me happy! These are the tricks i always wanted as a kid. Never thought I’d learn them at 36.
Notable mentions… Airing a spine for the first time, learning to kickflip properly and ANYTHING on a ledge!
What setup do you skate at the moment?
My set up… currently skating an 8inch medium mellow UK made deck from “broke skateboards”
Thunder hollow light trucks
55mm OG classic formula 4 spitfires
Bronson raws or G3s with the shields off!
Recently swapped mob for Jessup griptape! Jessup hate was a myth… it’s fine and flicks better!
Skate shoes… Vans Zahba mids
How would you describe your style?
Erm jack of all trades master of none! I try to skate everything! Ramp, street, flat ground and park!
I don’t have many tricks but I try to make what I’ve got look half decent!
What's next for 2025?
This is the easiest answer… carry on being the best Dad I can to my son and try to stay as healthy as possible! If that happens then I can skate as much as possible and keep getting better!
